Joyce P Miller
24 June 1943 – 19 August 2018
Joyce marched to the beat of her own drum, always taking charge when necessary….she cared
for the hungry and hurt, the sick and the lame….she loved her family beyond measure….she
made the world beautiful….her light was extinguished too soon, but she’s no longer plagued by
confusion and fear….her soul has been reunited with her one and only
Joyce was born to the late Robert D. and Astrid Hilt in Natick, Massachusetts on a beautiful New
England summer day. She was a proud graduate of Wellesley High and Deaconess Hospital
School of Nursing, later attaining her BSN from Georgia College. She treasured her time serving
our country in the United States Air Force as a nurse, earning the rank of Captain and meeting
the love of her life. Joyce thrived in her nursing career for nearly 40 years, retiring from MCCG
EC to travel with and care for her husband and grandchildren; a member of Trinity United
Methodist Church, serving numerous years as a cherished member of the Jamaica mission
team; President and advocate of the Middle Georgia Chapter of the National Reyes Syndrome
Foundation; member of the Emergency Nurses Association; lifelong girl scout; lover of ballet
and dance; extraordinary gardener; devoted mother and Swedish Maree(grandmother).
Preceded in death by loving husband Lt Col Joe Evans Miller Sr. Survived by daughter Jennifer
Miller Heide (Kevin) of Warner Robins, son Joe Evans Miller Jr. of Athens, daughter Jessica Elise
Miller of Warner Robins, sister Carolyn Ziegler of NC, granddaughter Michaela Melissa Heide,
granddaughter Ayley Josephine Miller, grandson Mathew Saxon Miller, granddaughter Remelie
Ann Heide.
Celebration of life will be Friday August 24, 2018 at 3:00PM at Trinity United Methodist Church,
Reverend Craig Hutto to officiate. Family asks all attending to bring a flower/flowers to place
on the resurrection cross in honor of her love of gardening and flowers; family will receive
friends one hour prior to the service from 2:00PM to 3:00PM.
