Obituary of Willie J. Pate

Byron Ga. – Willie J. Pate, 85, entered God’s embrace, Friday November 2. 2018 with his family by his side. A memorial service will be held on Monday November 5, 2018 at 2:00PM at Byron Baptist Church. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 1:00PM to 2:00PM. Reverend Zeke Delafuente will officiate. Mr. Pate was born on December 6, 1932 to the late Louie and Nellie Pate. He proudly served our country in the United States Army. He later went to work with civil service where he had the opportunity to travel the world. Mr. Pate worked diligently with a work ethic and a thirst for knowledge that quickly saw him rise the ranks at Robins Air Force Base. His love for his wife, Joan, children and grandchildren was apparent in everything he did. He was able to build bonds and connections with everyone he ever knew. He was loyal yet he taught us all the value of keeping your word. He encouraged our strength and accepted our weaknesses. We are all better people for having known him. He was saved at an early age at the age of 80 made a public profession of faith and was baptized at Byron Baptist Church where he became an active and faithful member. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years Joan Pate of Byron, children Randy (Jean) Pate, Clara Canady, Kathy (Jim) Oglesby, Lewis Pate, Robert (Jerredean) Pate, Russell (Rachel) Pate, Jennifer (David) Murphy. 21 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. Sisters Mary (Bruce) Vines, Georgia (Ray) Grimsley, Margie (Mike) Haney. And a host of nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, son Michael, grandsons Michael Pate and Patrick Cohen. Brothers LH, Arley, Neal, Ralph and sister Eva.
