Fair winds and following seas! I was one of your plane captains at VA-205. While I didn't know you other than professionally, you were one of the better officers that I was honored to serve with... RIP

I knew 'Magot' from the Florida Sportsman Forum.
I was deeply sorrowed to learn of his passing. He was a sportsman, an author and a fine gentleman. It was an honor to know him, if only in the online community. I have an autographed copy of his book, which I treasure, and a couple of years ago made a small pastel of the Big Bend for him.
His wonderful sense of humor will be sorely missed. He was a man respected by all.

Not every child wants to hear their dad referred to as "Maggot" but in your dads case it was a badge of honor. He was one of the finest officers I ever served with and he always treated the enlisted guys with respect. He praised you when you did well and would be the first to rip into you if you didn't but one thing for sure... he always had your back. Your family and this nation lost a fine man. Praying for y'all as you adjust to life without him.

Randy was like my little brother. When we were kids we climbed trees, fell out of trees, went fishing and would spend summers with grandparents out in the country. Cherished memories. I did not know him as an adult but I heard through family of all his accomplishments. I am saddened to hear of his passing and send prayers to his mother, my Aunt and his family.

I am saddened to hear of the loss of a great shipmate. CDR. McInvale was always one of my favorite pilots to interact with. I was a plane captain in VA-205 and had the pleasure of sending him off and recovering him from many of his flights. He always had a smile on his face and a twinkle in his eye.
Fair winds and following seas CDR.

It was an honor and a privilege to have known Tom. My sincere condolences to Tom’s family and friends. I hope y’all find peace in knowing that Tom lived a fulfilling and rewarding life. One which he lived it in his own stubborn and honorary way. Take solace in knowing that countless people looked up to, and respected, Tom to the fullest. Thank you for sharing him with all of us, his fishing forum buddies. R.I.P. Magot. We’ll miss you.

I’m shocked to hear of Tom’s passing! We knew each other during our years as Naval Aviators, while on active duty and throughout our years in the Naval Reserve at Naval Air Station Atlanta, in Marietta, GA. We flew the A-7 and A-6 aircraft, while attached to VA-205, in the Reserves. We hunted and fished together. I grew to appreciate Tom’s dry wit, and always thought of him as a good friend and a voice of reason. There is a huge hole in my heart today. He was a fine Naval Officer and a good man. He will be missed. My condolences to the family.

Last night, when I was in bed trying to sleep and thinking about Randy (as I knew him as his cousin) a couple of things ran through my mind.
The first one is how he was responsible for convincing me that there really was a Santa Claus.
I was little. We lived some place warm. He used to take me riding on the handlebars of his bicycle. Sometimes on the back fender and I had to be careful to keep my toes out of the spokes. It was Christmas Eve. He asked me to go for a ride. While riding around, he pointed to something up in the sky and said “Look, there goes Santa Claus” and THERE WAS Santa Claus and his sleigh and reindeer. Reflecting back, I have no idea what I saw. Could have been a plane. Could have been one of those planes that hauled signs behind them. Could have been birds. All I know is when we got back to the house, Santa had been there and there was presents. To me, at whatever tender age I was, he was a magical genius.
Another one that I’ll never forget: I was a little older ~ not sure exactly how much. Randy had snakes as pets. He had a black King snake that he really liked. He told me not to mess with the cage. Being a child, of course I messed with the cage. And Randy’s beloved snake got out. Now I have no real knowledge of how big the snake actually was. I never liked snakes! To me, that snake was 32 feet long. But I grabbed that sucker and got it back in it’s cage in lightning speed. My fear of snakes was overcome by my absolute fear of Randy being mad at me ~ not because I feared him in any way ~ but because I adored him so much the thought of disappointing him was not an option.
I remember spending hours watching him put together these intricate models of ships and airplanes that seemed to come in a million pieces; but that always came together perfectly under his attention to detail.
He wasn’t perfect ~ none of us are. But the world lost a good man.
Godspeed Cuz
