Obituary of Paul A Payne, Sr.
Paul A. Payne, Sr., 88, passed away on Tuesday, July 12, 2022. A funeral service is scheduled for Friday, July 15, 2022, 2:00pm in the chapel of Heritage Memorial Funeral Home & Crematory. A visitation is scheduled for Friday from 1:00pm until 2:00pm at the funeral home. Paul will be laid to rest next to his wife, Rebecca in the Mausoleum in Parkway Memorial Gardens. Reverend Leland Collins will officiate.
Paul was born May 29, 1934 in Howard, Georgia to the late Arthur Rufus and Ruby Estelle Payne. He was a longtime member of Evergreen Baptist Church and adhered to the Baptist faith. In Paul's youth, he enjoyed playing baseball and received college scholarships to play. He played ball for the Atlanta Crackers before working on Base for 30 years as an Electronics Technician. In addition, Paul enjoyed fishing, NASCAR, bowling, antiques, and listening to Country Western and Gospel music. He was a loving father, grandfather, and great grandfather and he will be missed by everyone who knew him.
In addition to his wife and parents, Paul is preceded in death by his son, Paul Payne, Jr. and sisters: Louise Wade and Leona Abrams.
Paul is survived by his daughters, Connie Gilman and Sharon Poynter of Warner Robins; granddaughter, Lisa Gilman; stepchildren: William Smallwood, Richard Smallwood, and Lynn Cox; brother, James Payne; three step grandchildren; and three step great grandchildren.
