Perry was born on April 10, 1935 in Eastman Georgia to the late Reverend Forest Bateman and Iona Pace. Perry was a selfless individual who loved helping others during their time of need. Perry was a devoted Christian, who served the Lord with all of his heart, soul, mind, and strength. He served as a Pastor for over 32 years at various churches, including Cochran, Gresston, Forsyth Congregational Holiness, New Faith and Independent Baptist Church. Perry was a man who understood the importance of sharing the light of Christ with his family and friends and the impact it could have on their life. He was also a proud American, who was honored to serve in the National Guard for over eight years.

Perry was a hard-working individual who worked at Robins Air Force Base as an Electronic Technician where he retired after 40 years of faithful service. When Perry was not working, he and Sara could often be found on his back deck with a fishing pole in his hand enjoying the Lord’s beauty all around. Perry was a loyal Georgia Bulldog fan who cheered them on every Saturday. He was very skilled in woodworking, and had constructed countless items for others to enjoy. Perry was a loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and dear friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

In addition to his parents there awaiting Perry at the gates of heaven is his precious granddaughter, Ariel Short; son-in-law, Rodney Short; siblings: Donnie Bateman, Travis (Betty) Bateman, Wendell (Zelma) Bateman, Doris (JC) Scott, Melba (Buddy) Roland, and brother-in-law Jerry Sorrow.

After 94 hours and 10 minutes, Mr. Perry’s beloved wife and bride of 68 wonderful years, Sara Thompson Bateman went to greet him at their mansion filled with red roses.
