Obituary of John W. Girmsey

Warner Robins: John W. ?Jack? Girmsey, Sr., 84, died Thursday November 3, 2005. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Monday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Magnolia Park Cemetery. Father Adam Szufel and Dr. Jimmy R. Asbell Jr. will officiate. Mr. Girmsey, a native of Syracuse, NY, was the son of the late John and Ruth McGraw Girmsey. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He was a US Army veteran and was retired from Robins AFB where he was instrumental in implementing the program for hiring the handicapped at Robins. He was the first male to receive the ?Friend of Women?award which recognized his push for equal advancement opportunities for women in the workplace as well as numerous other Air Force awards. He also coached baseball, basketball, football, and girl’s track at the recreation department. He attended Northwestern University. Survivors include his wife Marjorie R. Girmsey of Warner Robins. Children: Dianne Riggs Tom Taffs of Alpharetta, Kathy Canady, Mary David Davidson both of Bonaire and John W. Debi Girmsey Jr. of Hawaii. Nine grandchildren and four great grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Wallace Methodist Church, % Doug Brown, 501 Vz County Road 2507, Canton, TX 75103. Heritage Memorial Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
