Obituary of Bessie Zoumberis

Warner Robins, GA: Bessie Zoumberis, 83, passed away Saturday, July 23, 2005. Services will be at 11:00 AM Tuesday, July 26, 2005 in the chapel of Heritage Memorial Funeral Home with burial in Magnolia Park Cemetery. A wake will be held at 7:00 PM Monday evening at the funeral home with visitation to follow until 9:00 PM. Father Michael Vastakis and Father Cyril Garrett will officiate. Mrs. Zoumberis was born in Atlanta, GA to the late Anthony and Elevtheria Derdese Bennette. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Demetrios N. Zoumberis. She was the co-owner and operator of the Second Gate Cafe along with her husband for many years in Warner Robins. Mrs. Zoumberis lived in Greece from 1928 until 1945, at which time she moved back to the United States. She was a member of the Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Church in Macon. She was also a member and former officer of the Holy Cross Philoptochos Society. Survivors include her sons, Tony Liz Zoumberis of Warner Robins, Nick Patsy Zoumberis of Warner Robins, grandchildren Tony Jennifer Zoumberis of Carrolton, Paul Stephanie Zoumberis of Warner Robins, Stephanie Mike Sheppard of Byron, David Beth Zoumberis of Warner Robins, great grandchildren Madilynn Zoumberis of Carrolton, Taylor Phillips of Warner Robins, Hannah Sheppard of Byron, Luke Zoumberis of Warner Robins, brother James Bennette of Kathleen, sisters Theoni Striftobula and Angeliki Skreika both of Athens, Greece and several nieces and nephews. Contributions may be made to the Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Church in Macon, GA, or to one’s favorite charity in memory of Mrs. Zoumberis.
