Obituary of Robert Lansing Hicks

Warner Robins, GA: Robert L. Hicks, Sr., 84, passed away Monday, August 18, 2008, in Macon. Services will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday in the chapel of Heritage Memorial Funeral Home with burial in Magnolia Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 until 8 PM Wednesday at the funeral home. Mr. Hicks was born in Jenkins County, GA to the late Johnie and Anna Hicks. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Rubie Usry and Iris Swymer. Mr. Hicks was a member of Central Baptist Church, Past President of the Noon Optimist Club, a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, member of the USS Hornet Club, a veteran of the Unites States Navy, and a veteran of World War II where he was a Signalman Second Class during the war. He served with Admiral Jocko Clark aboard the flagship aircraft carrier Hornet CV12. He was in five major battle campaigns including Phillipine Liberation, Okinawa and Iwa Jima and he received a Presidential Unit Citation. Mr. Hicks retired after 37 years with Fleet Finance and Mortgage, formerly Southern Discount Co. Survivors include his wife Dessie M. Hicks of Warner Robins, son, Robert L. Hicks, Jr. and wife Phyllis of Warner Robins, daughter, Janet Hicks Tweed and husband Scott of Omaha, NE, four grandchildren, Amber Hicks Atchley of Orange City, FL, Christie Hicks McDaniels of Warner Robins, Heather Tweed of Las Vegas, NV, Eric Tweed of Omaha, NE, four great grandchildren, Rhiannon Hovey, Logan Atchley and Luc Atchley all of Orange City, FL and Kayla McDaniels of Warner Robins, two brothers, John Ira Hicks and Roy Hicks both of Macon, four sisters, Doris H. Purvis and Mable H. Duckworth both of Warner Robins, Marie H. Steel of Cartersville, GA and Helen H. Norman of Lawndale, NC. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to ones favorite charity. Heritage Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
