Obituary of Charles W. Nelson

Warner Robins, GA: Mr. Charles W. Nelson, 76, passed away on July 21, 2009. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, 24 July 2009 at First United Methodist Church. Dr. Jimmy Asbell, Jr. and Rev. Missy Blumenthal will officiate. Interment will follow in Magnolia Park Cemetery. Charles was born in Lilly, GA to late Pierce and Viola Morris Nelson. He was preceded in death by his Son Barney Nelson and Granddaughter Jessica Nelson. He was a U. S. Army veteran and worked in the United States Postal Service for over 36 years before retiring as the postmaster in Warner Robins where he was instrumental in the proposing and overseeing of the construction of the new post office building on Russell Parkway. Mr. Nelson was a member of the First United Methodist Church where he was the Plant Supervisor, member of the Fidelity Sunday School Class, Men’s Group and worked with the Keenagers Group. He was a former member of the Warner Robins Optimist Club for twenty years, member of the Peach Fans Camping Club, former Chairman of the Board of the Warner Robins Recreation Department and member of the Red Tie Men’s Auxiliary at Houston Medical Center. Survivors include his wife Marie Nelson of Warner Robins. Daughters; Nancy Phil Ferguson and Diane Cliff Tyler all of Bonaire, GA Grandchildren; Joshua Elaine Nelson, Jennifer Matt Moseley, Jason Jenn Ferguson, Tiffany Nelson, Kate Tyler and Chris Tyler. Great grandchildren; Nathan, Caroline and Sara Moseley, Kaitlin Ferguson and Conner Nelson Memorial contributions may be made to the Greater Things Challenge Fund at First United Methodist Church, 205 N. Davis Drive, Warner Robins, GA 31093. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Thursday at Heritage Memorial Funeral Home.
