Obituary of John Smith, Jr.

John Smith Jr, 70, known as Donnie/Blinky by his family and friends, passed away peacefully at
his home in Warner Robins, Georgia, on September 22, 2021, after a good fight with cancer.
John was born October 14, 1950, in Norfolk, Virginia, and raised most of his life in the tidewater
area. John enjoyed driving, traveling, and eating seafood and loved watching house
hunters(HGTV) and listening to old-school music. John lived a complete life mighty in spirit and
will truly be missed. His departure will leave a void in this world and the hearts of many. John
was a hardworking man. John retired from Norfolk Naval Shipyard Shop 56 after 24 years of
civil service in 2006. John's loving heart showed in his concern and care for friends. He was
always willing to listen and help cheer up others. John was commissioned into the United States
Army as a 1st Lieutenant out of Norfolk State University, where he graduated with his Bachelor's
degree in Political Science. Survivors include his loving wife of 15 years, Gwendolyn Smith,
four stepchildren Claude Underwood, Chalise Perrin, Carie Davis, Demone Webb and six
grandchildren Jamiyah Dukes, London Perrin, Kaleah, his sisters Doris Campbell(Willie), Vergie
Smith Stepsister Ethel Flynt(Bubba) a special friend Linwood Turner (Vanessa) and many loving
nieces and nephew and cousins. John will be fondly remembered for his welcoming smile and
his favorite quote, "you can cash that check. "
