Obituary of Mrs. Betty Nelson Estep
Mrs. Betty Nelson Estep, 91, went to be with her Lord and Savior December 29, 2023. A celebration of her life will be held at The Well at Centerville United Methodist Church, Tuesday January 2, 2024 at 2:00 PM with Pastor Tommy Odum officiating. A visitation will be held one hour prior, Tuesday, January 2, 2024 between 1:00 and 2:00 PM at The Well at Centerville. Mrs. Betty will be laid to rest beside her beloved late husband, Eugene Howard Estep, immediately following the service.
Betty was born in Mobile, Alabama on February 10, 1932 to the late Mr. and Mrs. Thomas J Nelson. In addition to her parents and spouse, Betty is preceded in death by her brothers, Thomas Nelson, Lawrence (Hazel) Nelson, George (Caroline) Nelson, William (Tina) Nelson, and sister Shirley (Bob) Thomas.
Betty devoted her life to serving her family, friends, the community and most importantly, the Lord. Betty worked in Houston County as a substitute teacher for several years. She was also employed at the Centerville Public Library and enjoyed touching the hearts and lives of the children. Betty was an active member of Centerville United Methodist Church since 1966 and enjoyed listening to the beautiful hymns and scriptures. She was involved with the Choir and rejoiced in singing "O Holy Night" every Christmas service. Betty also enjoyed spending time in the kitchen, cooking family meals, and making memories around the dinner table. She was known for making the best cream cheese pound cakes. Betty was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and dear friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Betty is survived by her sister Ginger (Paul) Hurn, sister-in-law Helen Nelson; children: Joanne (the late Waymon) Kile, Eugene (Nancy) Estep, Jr and Jeffrey (Wanda) Estep; 9 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and extended family and friends.
