Obituary of Mae V. Calloway

Mae V. Calloway Hill passed away surrounded by her family and loving caregivers in the early morning hours of Thursday, January 4, 2024.  A funeral service will be held Tuesday, January 9, 2024 at 2 PM in the chapel of Heritage Memorial Funeral Home and Crematory.  A visitation will take place one hour prior to the service between the hours of 1 PM and 2 PM.  A private interment will immediately follow the service at Parkway Memorial Gardens.  Pastor Tommy Martin will officiate. 

Mae was born in Marianna, Florida on March 21, 1928 to the late William A. Vickery and Cora Lee McCormick Vickery.  Along with her parents, she is also preceded in death by her brother, Buck; sisters: Lou Ettie, Hettie and Ruby; and son-in-law, David Hodge.  

Mae wore many career hats that include, telephone operator, soda jerk, sales clerk, hairdresser; but her most cherished role was that of a wife, mother, homemaker, and grandmother. Caring for her family was by far her greatest accomplishment.  In her free time, she enjoyed sewing, crocheting, flower arranging, cooking, and traveling.  She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her daughters, Frances (aka Franki) Hodge and Susan (Steven) Wells; grandchildren: Andrea Hodge, Christopher (Katie) George, and Angel (Brett) Bowers; 7 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild, honorary grandchildren, beloved caregivers and great grand dogs.
