Obituary of Thomas "Tom" Hendricks Haskins, Jr.

Warner Robins, Georgia – Thomas “Tom” Hendricks Haskins, Jr./W4WXA became a silent key on Thursday, February 15, 2024. A visitation with family and friends will be held on Monday, February 19, 2024, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Heritage Memorial Funeral Home & Crematory. A Funeral Service honoring the life of Tom will be held on Tuesday, February 20, 2024, at 11:00 AM in the chapel of Heritage Memorial Funeral Home. Immediately following the service Tom will be laid to rest beside his loving wife and son at Blountsville Baptist Church Cemetery in Jones County.

Tom was born on June 1, 1935, in Macon, Georgia to the late Amanda Louise Miller Haskins and Thomas H. Haskins, Sr. Tom was a very hard-working man who strived to excel in all that he did. He earned his Industrial Engineering degree from Georgia Institute of Technology. While attending Georgia Tech, Tom was a member of the Yellow Jacket Marching Band where he played the saxophone. After graduating he continued to be an avid Georgia Tech fan and support his alma mater.

Tom began work immediately after graduating as a civilian at Robins Air Force Base and served faithfully for 32 years and retired as a Chief Industrial Engineer. When he was not working he could be found at home spending time with those he loved and cherished while watching the Atlanta Braves. Tom was also a licensed Amateur Ham Radio Operator and loved using Morse code and his call sign was W4WXA. Tom served as a volunteer firefighter for 26 years for the Centerville Fire Department prior to the municipal fire department being formed. Upon retirement, Tom and his wife had purchased several lake lots at Lake Sinclair where the two resided for many years. Tom found great peace in being at the lake and enjoyed fishing and taking countless boat rides with his loving family.

Tom and his wife Carolyn were faithful members of the church of Christ and taught and converted many souls over the years. He served in many capacities at the church such as Deacon, song leader, teacher, and occasionally preacher.

In addition to his parents, there waiting for Tom at the gates of heaven is his beloved wife, Carolyn Wellborn Haskins; his son, Johnny Haskins; and his lifelong friend Wadley Thrash. All whom he had longed to be with for so long.

Left to cherish his memory is his beloved children, Thomas H. Haskins, III (Nancy), Amanda Haskins Hicks, Lucinda Watson and Robert P Haskins (Kim); Grandchildren: Jessica Haskell (Caroline), Thomas H Haskins, IV., Buck Hicks, Hannah Willoughby (Scott), Hunter Haskins, Dustin Watson and Derek Watson; Great-grandchildren: Attaleigh Willoughby, Delaynie Watson and Dakota Watson. Thomas is also survived by a host of extended family members and countless friends whom he loved without limits.

The family would like to thank all the beloved caregivers throughout his later years. We couldn’t have done this without their love and support.

The family respectfully asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made payable to the American Heart Association, PO Box 840692, Dallas, TX 75284.
