Our cherished matriarch, was born on September 3, 1926, in Climax, Georgia to the late John Wesley Martin and Rosetta Hughes Martin. Her childhood days were spent racing to keep pace with her two brothers, Harmon and Lofton. Lois married the love of her life, Frank Smith Sims Jr., a U.S. Navy veteran, in an intimate ceremony at their pastor's home on August 24, 1946. Throughout their marriage, the couple journeyed across continents, spanning the U.S., Europe, and the tropics. Yet, amidst their worldly adventures, their true destination was always the happiness they found in each other's arms.

She embarked on a distinguished career at Robins Air Force Base in Warner Robins, Georgia
where her sharp intellect propelled her through the ranks. Transitioning seamlessly into upscale
real estate, she showcased tenacity and geniality, leaving an indelible mark. Even at work, Lois's effervescence lit up the room. July 3, 1951, marked the arrival of their son, Steven Michael, a day Lois declared the happiest of her life. Her pride in Steve echoed through their home, where framed moments of his childhood adorned the walls. Even in her final days, Lois' eyes would sparkle at 7:30 p.m. in anticipation of her daily chat with her son.

A vivacious and exuberant grandmother, Lois transformed her home into a haven of joy, ensuring every child felt safe, celebrated, and cherished. Handwritten notes and small gifts were sprinkled like confetti, and she cheered with gusto as her grandchildren turned her manicured yard into a racetrack for their big wheels. At her house, scrapes and scratches were healed with home-grown aloe, soothing back rubs, and a heaping scoop of macaroni and cheese.

Lois never met a stranger and always knew how to make people feel sincerely seen and heard. Her quick wit was usually followed with a wink that marked a shared moment between you. For her friends and family, her playful demeanor was matched by her unwavering support—always defending, comforting, and loving without hesitation. Through sickness and health, Lois remained a devoted wife, standing as a pillar of strength beside Frank through his cancer diagnosis and treatment until his passing in 2004. She carried his memory with her, forever "Frank's girl," her heart a sanctuary where his spirit found eternal companionship.

Lois' final days with us were a kaleidoscope of emotions—tears, laughter, hugs, and storytelling. In true Lois fashion, she dedicated her energy to consoling her loved ones, reassuring us that she was ready to reunite with her Lord and Savior. In her peace, we find solace. For souls as genuinely kind as Lois, their physical absence yields deep grief as we search for an outlet for the immense love we have for them. Fortunately, this enduring love forms the unshakeable foundation upon which our family stands, and her spirit envelops us always. Lois Sims, a partner, parent, and friend like no other, has enriched our lives beyond measure. Our hearts are forever changed because we knew her.

Lois is survived by her son, Steve Sims (Sheryl); granddaughters: Elizabeth Crown (Andrew), Emily Sims, Katherine Sims, Kelly Whitfield (Billy); and great-grandchildren: Luke Lumpkin, Will Whitfield, and Elle Whitfield.
