In Loving Memory of Eva Elizabeth Johns Haynes

(January 29, 1943 - August 14, 2023)

It is with heavy hearts that we the Haynes, Johns, Blake, White and Gibson families announce the passing of a beloved mother, grandmother, and dedicated educator, Eva Haynes, who left us on August 14, 2023. She was born in Robertsport, Grand Cape Mount County, Liberia, on January 29, 1943, and her departure leaves a void in the lives of those who were fortunate enough to know her.

Eva Haynes was a woman of unwavering love and compassion, touching the lives of many through her roles as a devoted mother and grandmother. She cherished her role as a mother, guiding her three sons through life's ups and downs with boundless care and wisdom. Olu, Wilbur and Varney Haynes were her pride and joy, each carrying forward her legacy of love.

A graduate of the Booker Washington Institute (BMI) in Kakata, Liberia and Cuttington College in Suakoko, Bong County, Liberia, Eva devoted her life to learning.  As a dedicated educator and author, Eva Haynes made her mark within the Houston County Public School System, illuminating the path to knowledge for countless students over the years. With patience and understanding, she fostered a love for learning that continues to thrive in the hearts of those she taught.

Eva Haynes was not only a beacon of knowledge but also a pillar of strength within her community. Her kindness, empathy, and generosity were boundless, creating a ripple effect of positivity that touched everyone fortunate enough to cross her path. Her legacy of love and giving will forever inspire those who knew her.

Beyond her professional and familial accomplishments, Eva Haynes found joy in the simple pleasures of life. Whether tending to her plants, enjoying the warmth of a good book, painting or sharing laughter with friends, she embraced every moment with grace and gratitude guarded by her prayerful attitude.

She is survived by her loving sons and their families: Olu Haynes and his wife Fay, along with their children Christophe and Olivia Haynes; Wilbur Haynes and his wife Lorraine, along with their children Danielle, Mackenzie, and Willow Haynes; and Varney Haynes and his wife Ibeth, along with their son Matthew Haynes.
